Storm Shadow is a popular fictional character created by Larry Hama. He made his debut appearance in the 21st issue of G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, which was released in March 1984. Storm Shadow served in the region of Southeast Asia and was on the same LRRP team as Snake Eyes and Joe Stalker.

The intense nature of this training enabled him to forge a strong bond of friendship with Snake Eyes. After serving in Vietnam, he made it a point to visit his family in Japan. They were known as the Arashikage clan, who, despite being a deadly ninja clan for many decades, had remained elusive and clandestine.

Eager to master the ways of a ninja, Storm Shadow studied diligently under the strict tutelage of his estranged uncle, who was identified only by his code name the ‘Hard Master.’

When Snake Eyes arrived in the country following the tragic death of his family in a fatal car crash, Storm Shadow invited him to study with the ninja clan. To his surprise, his best friend proved to be immensely talented in various forms of martial arts and quickly became a favorite of Hard Master.

In fact, he was the Master’s No.1 choice to succeed him as chief of the clan. Unfortunately, this led to a rift between the two friends, and prompted Snake Eyes to leave.

However, before he could inform the others of this decision, news filtered through that Hard Master has been murdered by an assassin, while demonstrating a difficult ninja technique.

Storm Shadow, on spotting the killer fleeing in a helicopter with the COBRA insignia branded on it, immediately left the clan to pursue the assassin.
